W.O.W.!
Woodmen of the World and
Sumner County Habitat for Humanity met for a
dedication ceremony with the new homeowners at 1:00 p.m., 9/11/2003.
The ceremony began with the Pledge of Allegiance, prayers, and
a special remembrance of the events of 9/11/2001.
This was followed by a very special thank-you to all of the
people involved in the project: the planners and organizers, the construction
crew, the people who donated money and materials, the churches and businesses
who provided lunch each day, and the Town of Westmoreland.
You have made the Bolden's dream come true!
Thank you for
making a difference in our world!!!!!!

By Linda Dowdell
Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society (a non-profit fraternal company)
has joined hands with Sumner County Habitat for Humanity, and we have scheduled
a "blitz build" in Westmoreland.
This build consists of building a home in just seven days, "dirt to
dedication" and making a dream come true for a family. This is a project
Woodmen members (all volunteers) have done throughout the southeast for the past
six years. This year is Middle Tennessee's turn to host the Habitat build.
We are especially excited about having the build in Westmoreland. Woodmen
(Middle Tennessee Fraternal Activities, Inc.) has a youth camp located on Lake
Westmoreland Road in Westmoreland. We have owned this camp for 10 years which
we use for our Woodmen members. We have youth camp for our members ages 8 to
15, and we have two Senior camps each year for our Senior members ages 55 and
over.
Woodmen has 34 camps across the nation, and we fortunate to have one in
Middle Tennessee. The camp is owned and operated by members from the Middle
Tennessee area. We also rent the camp to other non-profit organizations
(primarily churches). We will be housing the Habitat workers at the camp during
the build so it all worked out perfectly!
Our schedule is as follows:
Friday, September 5, 2003 - Groundbreaking at 1:00 p.m.
Saturday, September 6, 2003 - Begin construction on home.
Construction continues daily until Thursday, September 11.
Thursday, September 11, 2003 - Dedication of house at 1:00 p.m. at the site.
Friday, September 12, 2003 - Formal presentation of keys to the family at the
Marriott Airport Hotel that evening at a Woodmen convention.
We have Woodmen members coming into Westmoreland from several states for this
build. They are:
Alabama
Arkansas
Florida
Georgia
Illinois
Kentucky
Louisiana
North Carolina
South Carolina
Tennessee
West Virginia
It is a lot of work, but we have a great time, working together
as fraternalists -- making a difference in the lives of others.
There are several businesses in Westmoreland who are very supportive of this
build and who have already committed to donations (seven businesses are
sponsoring a lunch each day).
The building site is at the end of Pleasant Grove Road and Locust Street (right
across from the Westmoreland walking park and the EMS center). We will be
building a four-bedroom, two-bath house (1,200 square feet). Habitat for
Humanity has selected the family: husband, wife, four children (ages 2, 4, 6 and
10). We want to make sure the family gets settled and is comfortable in
Westmoreland.!
